FIBA EuroBasket 2025

The next EuroBasket is coming to a city near you. The tournament's qualification process, the European Pre-Qualifiers, tipped off in November 2021.

Slovenia and Israel have already secured spots in the final round, joining tournament co-hosts Cyprus, Finland, Latvia, and Poland. But the other 13 spots are still up for grabs in the final window.

Hosts

The hosts for the upcoming EuroBasket 2025 have been announced. Latvia, Cyprus and Finland will co-host the event. Each host will host one group stage, and also the knockout rounds and medal matches. The FIBA EuroBasket qualifiers, formally known as the Pre-Qualifiers, commenced in November 2024.

Although all the early-round hosts will qualify for the final tournament, they are participating in the FIBA EuroBasket qualifiers because their results may affect the situation of other teams. For example, Poland lost the first round home game against Croatia, but will continue to participate since their results can still impact the final result of other teams in their group.

The FIBA Europe Board, term of office 2023-27, held its second meeting in the city of Mies in Switzerland. The meeting was held in the House of Basketball, and FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa and Secretary General Andreas Zagklis were both present.

Group Stages

The FIBA EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers kicked off with a bang on Thursday night. The defending champions Spain won against Greece, while Latvia took down Belgium and Israel beat Ukraine.

The 42nd edition of Europe’s premier basketball tournament will be held in Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia. The defending champions and three other teams from FIBA Europe will automatically qualify for the final round, while the rest of the participants will be determined through a series of qualifiers.

The qualifiers will be played over three scheduling windows. The initial window will run from 22 to 26 February. A full schedule can be found on the FIBA website.

Round of 16

Following a hectic 2024 loaded with athletic activity, the sports calendar will be even busier for national teams in Europe. Next up are the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 qualifying rounds, which will feature some of the continent’s best women’s basketball teams.

Group B has the look of a competitive group with Slovenia, Belgium, Hungary and Finland all fighting for the last ticket to the Final Round. Luka Doncic helped Slovenia keep their top spot with a big performance against France and Emma Cechova has been terrific for Czechia.

Hungary is out of the picture with a loss to Turkiye and Finland could qualify with two wins. The winner of the group will face either Greece or Bulgaria in the last window. Israel are also on the verge of clinching a place with a win over Latvia and Jennie Simms leading the way.

Quarter-Finals

After a thrilling first window, the teams are gearing up for a second qualifying window that will see 32 nations vie for 24 spots at EuroBasket 2025. The tournament will be co-hosted by Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia and will take place from 27 August to 14 September.

The second window began with a bang as Slovenia edged Portugal at home while Israel defeated Ukraine to finish top of Group A and secure their spot in the final round. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic was part of the Slovenian squad that qualified for the main event, and he’s looking forward to playing in the competition.
